If you've ever been told your blood tests are "normal" but you still don't feel like yourself, you're not alone.
Many women come to us struggling with fatigue, poor sleep, anxiety, weight gain, low libido, brain fog, irregular periods or feeling constantly "wired but tired." Sometimes routine blood tests don't tell the whole story.
The DUTCH Plus® (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) is one of the most detailed hormone tests available. It looks beyond hormone levels alone to show how your body is producing, using and breaking down hormones, giving us a much clearer picture of what may be contributing to your symptoms.
The DUTCH Plus measures:
- Oestrogens
- Progesterone
- Testosterone
- DHEA
- 35 different hormones and hormone metabolites, helping us understand not just how much hormone you produce, but how your body processes and breaks them down.
- Cortisol response throughout the day
This can provide valuable information for women experiencing:
- Perimenopause/Menopause
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PMOS/PCOS)
- Irregular periods
- Fertility concerns
- Low libido
- Hormone-related migraines
- Hormonal acne
- Fatigue
Importantly, it also measures your Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR).
Normally, cortisol rises sharply within the first 30–45 minutes after waking before gradually falling throughout the day.
Looking at this pattern can help us understand why some people feel:
- Exhausted when they wake up
- Wide awake at bedtime
- Constantly stressed
- Unable to cope with pressure
- "Wired but tired"
- Fatigued despite sleeping
Rather than simply measuring one cortisol level, the DUTCH Plus shows how your stress response changes throughout the day.
The DUTCH Plus is one of the most comprehensive functional hormone tests currently available. It helps us look beyond individual hormone levels to understand how your hormones, stress response and metabolism work together.
If you're experiencing ongoing symptoms and want a deeper understanding of your health, this test may provide valuable answers.
Book an appointment with one of our clinicians to discuss whether the DUTCH Plus is the right investigation for you and how the results could help guide your personalised treatment plan.
Is the DUTCH Plus suitable if I'm taking HRT?
In many cases, yes. The test can often provide useful information alongside HRT, although the timing and interpretation may differ depending on the type of hormones you use. We'll advise whether it is appropriate for your individual situation.
Do I need to stop my medication?
Not usually. We will let you know before testing if any medications or supplements need to be paused temporarily. You will need to complete a form that is sent off with the test package that states medications you are on.
Is the test painful?
No. There are no blood samples involved. The test uses dried urine and saliva samples that you collect yourself at home. A kit will be sent out to you.
How long does it take to get results?
Results are usually available within 2–4 weeks after the laboratory receives your samples.
