Trying for a baby — but it’s taking longer than you expected?
When every month ends with another negative pregnancy test, it can be incredibly difficult not to wonder:
Why isn't it happening?
Is it my hormones? Am I ovulating? What is my egg reserve like? Could there be something going on in my pelvis? Should we keep trying — or is it time to get help?
And perhaps the hardest question of all:
Are we losing valuable time?
Our Subfertility Investigation Bundle is designed to help you move from uncertainty to answers.
Instead of investigating one thing at a time, we bring together a detailed medical assessment, fertility blood tests, pelvic ultrasound, ovulation assessment and vaginal swabs — followed by a dedicated fertility consultation to put all the pieces together and help you understand what to do next.
Your fertility deserves more than one blood test.
There isn't a single test that can tell you why you haven't conceived yet.
That's why our full investigation looks at your fertility from several different angles.
1. Your story
You'll start with an appointment with a Women's Health GP.
We'll talk through your menstrual cycle, how long you've been trying, previous pregnancies, symptoms, medical history and anything else that could be relevant.
This happens before your scan, so the information we gather can help inform your investigation.
If your appointment is in person, we can also take your vaginal swabs at this appointment.
2. Your hormones
You'll have a specific fertility blood panel looking at your hormonal health and other potential contributors to difficulty conceiving.
This includes AMH, which gives us information about your ovarian reserve.
And because life is already busy enough, a nurse can visit you at home or work to take your blood sample.
3. Are you ovulating?
Having regular periods doesn't necessarily tell us everything we need to know about ovulation.
We'll send you a second finger-prick progesterone test to complete at the appropriate point later in your cycle, helping us assess whether ovulation is occurring.
4. Your ovaries & egg reserve
Your ultrasound includes an antral follicle count (AFC).
Together with your AMH and the rest of your clinical picture, this provides additional information about your ovarian reserve.
Neither AMH nor AFC can tell us your egg quality or predict whether you will conceive naturally — but they can provide useful information when deciding what to do next.
5. Your uterus & pelvic health
Your ultrasound doesn't just count follicles.
We'll look at your uterus, ovaries and other visible pelvic structures, checking for findings that may be relevant to fertility and whether anything warrants further investigation.
6. Your vaginal health
We'll take vaginal swabs to look for potential contributors that may otherwise be missed.
Because fertility isn't only about your hormone levels.
And then we put the whole picture together.
This is the part that matters.
Once your investigations are complete, you won't simply receive a collection of results and be left wondering what they mean.
You'll have a dedicated appointment with Kate Pleace, our Fertility Nurse Specialist, who has more than 15 years' experience in fertility care.
Kate will bring your results together and help you understand:
What have we found?
Is anything likely to be affecting your chances of conceiving?
Is there anything we can optimise?
Should you continue trying naturally?
Do you need further investigation or treatment?
And at what point should you consider fertility treatment or IVF?
You'll leave with a clearer understanding of where you are now — and a plan for what happens next.

Fertility isn't only about the woman.
Around half of infertility cases involve a male factor either alone or alongside a female factor.
That's why, where relevant, we strongly recommend investigating both partners rather than spending months looking at only one half of the picture.
Add at-home sperm testing
A home testing option makes it quicker and easier to investigate sperm health alongside your own fertility assessment.
Planning ahead for fertility treatment?
If you may need fertility treatment or IVF, there are some additional checks that clinics commonly request.
You can add:
Rubella Immunity Check
Not sure whether you've had both MMR vaccinations or whether you're still immune to rubella?
We can check your rubella immunity so you know where you stand before pregnancy or fertility treatment.
Cervical Health Check
Some fertility clinics require cervical screening to be up to date before starting treatment.
Our cervical health assessment can include HPV testing and cervical cytology, depending on the option selected and your individual circumstances.
If you can't attend the clinic in person, an HPV home-testing option may be available.
Not ready for the complete investigation?
You can also choose a Blood Investigation or Scan Investigation option.
These can be useful if you've already had part of your fertility assessment elsewhere and don't need everything repeated.
But if you're starting from scratch and want the most joined-up picture possible, the Complete Subfertility Investigation is the option we'd recommend.
You don't have to spend another six months wondering.
Sometimes investigations find something we can act on.
Sometimes they're reassuring.
And sometimes they tell us that it's time to move more quickly towards specialist fertility treatment.
All of those are useful answers.
Because when having a baby matters this much, knowing where you stand can help you make decisions about what happens next.

Medication costs are payable separately to the dispensing pharmacy.
No fertility investigation can guarantee or predict natural conception. AMH and antral follicle count provide information about ovarian reserve but do not measure egg quality or, in isolation, predict the likelihood of pregnancy.
